LANAP, which stands for Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure is a technology that uses lasers to kill diseased gum tissue and remove it completely from the root of the tooth. The laser heat separates the diseased tissue from the rest of the patient's mouth and then cauterizes the wound to form a blood clot. Once the infected gum tissue is eliminated the dentist can scrape off tartar and plaque that may have built up underneath the gums as well as in the root area.
